Modern physics tells us that energy exists beyond the smallest known particles of matter. Energy is everywhere and in everything – in food, water, the air we breathe. Even inanimate objects possess a frequency of energy. It is also felt that this unseen energy permeates our bodies and cells and that the flow of it is somehow correlated to our health and well being.

It is known that stress can greatly suppress the immune system and that it is the cause of 90-95% of illnesses and disease. With that in mind, decreasing stress in our lives can greatly improve our quality of life from a physical, mental and emotional standpoint.

We do know that our bodies have an innate ability to heal itself. Energy-based healing modalities such as Reiki are thought to facilitate that process by providing an environment that allows for self-healing to take place. Reiki is an invaluable tool that you have for a life-time.

What is Reiki ?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is an energy-based healing modality involving the laying on of hands with simply a light touch or with hands just above the body. It is of Japanese origin and is used for stress and pain reduction. Reiki promotes a deep state of relaxation which allows for healing. The word Reiki is often translated as “Universal Life Force/Energy” (Rei – Universal; Ki – Life Force/Energy). Depending upon the culture, life force/energy is known by many names; chi – Chinese, prana – Hindus, mana – Hawaiian Kahunas, etc.

Reiki is a holistic approach to self-healing in that it heals body, mind and spirit. It is important to keep in mind that healing is not necessarily “curing”. With that said, amazing healings take place via a Reiki session. Also keep in mind that Reiki is not a replacement for traditional medical treatment but should be used as an adjunct in accelerating the healing process.

Reiki is not a religion. It is not based on dogma, creed or ideology, and there is no doctrine you must believe in order to experience it or use it. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on any belief at all and will be effective whether you believe in it or not. Many people from all walks of life as well as varied religious beliefs and convictions practice Reiki. Christians who have questions as to how Reiki can be in alignment with their belief systems may want to visit www.christianreiki.org.

The ability to do Reiki is innate within each and every one of us. An amazingly simple technique to learn and use, it is not taught in the usual sense. By taking a Reiki class, an attunement is given to the student by the Reiki Master/Teacher. This process opens up the individual to be “in tune” to the life force energy, allowing the energy to flow at will. A good analogy would be comparing yourself to a radio. Many stations are available for listening, but to hear your favorite station, you must first tune in to its frequency. Once attuned, all that is necessary for the student to do is to place one’s hands on oneself or another person, and the energy begins to flow simply by intent. Your intent is like tuning into the frequency of your favorite radio station.

 Reiki Sessions vs. Attunements

A session takes place when Reiki is given to a client by someone that has been attuned to Reiki (practitioner). Many individuals have no desire to actually “learn” Reiki. Instead, they find someone who is attuned to Reiki to “give them a session”.

An attunement is when a Reiki master actually teaches or “attunes” an individual, opening them to the flow of energy which allows them to actually perform Reiki on themselves as well as give Reiki sessions themselves. Once you are attuned to Reiki, you are attuned for life.

 Levels of Reiki

Reiki Level I – Allows an individual to use Reiki on him/herself, someone else, pets and animals and inanimate objects.

Reiki Level II –  The individual learns to direct and amplify the energy via advanced techniques with specific energy patterns meant for distance healing as well as working on an emotional and mental level.

Reiki Master –  This level of Reiki is about living Reiki.  You will learn the focusing tools/symbols of a Reiki Master as well as advanced Reiki techniques.  This class is for someone who desires the tools of a Reiki Master yet has no desire to teach Reiki to others  (2 day class)

Reiki Master/Teacher – This level of Reiki is about sharing Reiki with others. The individual is able to teach/attune others to Reiki.  You receive the instruction/attunement of the Reiki Master AND how to teach/attune others to Reiki as well as advanced Reiki techniques. (3 day class)
